Preserving and recreating diverse living spaces

This year, the City of Science Darmstadt is again supporting the campaign ‘Plant tall trunk fruit trees’ of the two NABU district associations in Darmstadt and Dieburg. Last year, the campaign was canceled due to the corona pandemic.

“We will cover the cost of 30 euros for all property owners in Darmstadt – or even tenants in consultation with landlords. In this way, we enable Darmstadt residents to purchase a high-stem fruit tree with a plant stake and protection from game bites free of charge. With this campaign, we are helping to ensure that fruit tree meadows in particular, which are of great importance as a diverse habitat for numerous animal and plant species, are preserved and recreated – and you can also enjoy tasty, unsprayed and healthy fruit from your own Enjoy your garden, “explains Environment Director Michael Kolmer and adds:” The NABU campaign is an excellent addition to our ‘1,000 new trees’ subsidy campaign, which focuses primarily on the planting of local, large-crowned deciduous trees and with which we support each planting with 500 euros each . “

The last possible order date for the campaign ‘Plant high-stem fruit trees’ is September 30th. The delivery of the fruit trees is planned for the beginning of November. The delivery date and location will be communicated in writing in good time to all those who order trees.

Order forms with a long list of different types of old apples, pears, sweet cherries and plums are available in the environmental office of the City of Science Darmstadt or can be found on the homepage at https://www.darmstadt.de/leben-in-darmstadt/umwelt/wald-und-baeume/privatbaeume/ can be viewed.
