After investigating the repression and human rights violations that were committed in Urnieta during the Civil War and the first years of the Franco regime, the City Council will publish two books under the title ‘Urnieta, 1936-1945 Violation of Human Rights and repression during the War Civil and the First Francoism ‘. In this way, the history of the protagonists who suffered those violent episodes and the history of Urnieta will be voiced so that it is not forgotten.
Today at 7:00 p.m. in Sarobe the presentation ceremony will take place. In the same, in addition to the municipal representatives, there will be the presence of members of the Aranzadi science society who have collaborated in the book.
Through this project the City Council wants to “recover, update and make known the historical memory of Urnieta and the urnietarras”, they explain from the Consistory. Likewise, it intends to comply with International Law on human rights and as a local institution, within its possibilities, “to do justice and compensate those who suffered the horrors of war and dictatorship.”
