The Gijn Municipality Active Inclusion Network developed the second homeless count in Gijn during the night between last Thursday and early Friday, with the aim of having a better understanding of the situation of these people in the municipality, as well as giving them visibility.
The Network, led by the Municipal Foundation for Social Services, Covadonga Shelter Foundation, Silo Foundation, Gijón Charity Association, Mar de Niebla, Nacai, Albniz Association, Identità per them, Red Cross, ACCEM, Hombre y Critas Project, according to a press release of the Consistory of Gijons.
During this process, information was collected on people who spend the night on the street, on those who stay overnight in homeless residential facilities and on data on people who spent the night in abandoned places (industrial sheds, houses, buildings, etc.).
The second count of people who stay overnight on the street was carried out with the participation of 130 people, including professionals and volunteers, previously trained, who were assigned a specific geographical area, of the 41 in which the municipality of Gijn divided by this action, having established the meeting point in the Mestas sports complex.
This initiative is part of one of the lines of work developed by Gijn’s Active Inclusion Network to eradicate extreme homelessness in the municipality.
The data obtained will be presented on November 28, in a Work and Reflection Conference organized by REDIA on the occasion of the celebration of the World Homeless Day.
