Preparations and Expectations for the RCP Boys and Girls Teams in the Rugby Championship

Before the start of the championship, the coaches of the RCP boys and girls teams welcomed us in the meeting room of the Puy-l’Évêque rugby club before weekly training.

Ahmed Zandouche (former RCP player) you took charge of the preparation of the senior men’s team. How is the season looking?

From an effective point of view, under the best auspices; many young people are coming to strengthen the club which already benefits from an experienced structure without being too old, i.e. around thirty players. A volume which will allow us to remedy the various absences: injuries, various unavailability inherent to the life of all clubs. In addition, the group appears to be very healthy and in my opinion is progressing humanly and rugby-wise.

Our captain Paul Chanteloup, fly-half, is only 21 years old; a young team that can only progress.

Certainly, the first two friendly matches (3 Tours challenge) ended in two defeats, but the team’s performance was encouraging against teams that play at a higher level than us. We will evolve for the championship in regional 3 of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine committee, which allows us to make shorter trips. Our goal is simple: to remain undefeated at home and finish the first phase in the top three (out of ten teams). My role is closer to that of a manager; I am assisted by Guillaume Lacoste who takes care of the forwards, Marc Faucher (player coach) of the 3/4, and Claude Garambay of the technique.

Cédric Harang, are you coaching the women’s team for the second year?

In fact, I obtained the official federal coaching diploma last year. But at 33, I still practice with the men’s team. Our women’s team is experiencing some staffing issues. Certainly we have retained 90% of the players (including absences for maternity), but with only around twenty licensees, it is not possible for us to evolve into XV. Also we will temporarily participate this year in the X game (no more 3rd line, no wingers); i.e. two meetings per month. More specifically, Benoît Vialaret will take care of the 3/4, Jérôme Lorenco the forwards. The captaincy will be ensured by Rachel Convers, while Anaïs Figuié and Audrey Lacroix will play under dual license with Cahors.
