While one of Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s fiercest manager rivals, Chelsea’s Frank Lampard, has received everything he has pointed out from players this summer, things have not gone as smoothly for the Norwegian.
With only a few days left of the transfer window, Donny van de Beek remains for the time being as Manchester United’s only reinforcement, and the transfer saga around Jadon Sancho seems to end without a significant result.
Withdrew statement
It now appears that United will instead go for their second choice, Ousmane Dembele, and the club will now be hopeful with a view to reaching a loan agreement with Barcelona.
After the outbreak of the corona pandemic in March, Solskjær stated that he felt confident that Manchester United was in such a strong financial position that they could take advantage of the situation to their advantage in the transfer market.

At Friday’s press conference before this weekend’s meeting with Tottenham, Solskjær partially withdrew the statement.
– I think the way I worded myself during the lockdown, by saying “exploit”, was bad. I did not mean it that way. We have lost a lot of money and so have other clubs, Solskjær said on Friday.

Daily Mails body language expert Judi James believes it is clear that Solskjær becomes uncomfortable when the questions about transitions arise.
– Just like Boris Johnson, Ole prefers a type of body language that is cheerful and funny. When he is at his most comfortable and talking about the sport he loves or discussions with José, his eyebrows go up, his eyes widen, and his young and authentic smile emerges.
– When he is asked to buy new players, most of the cheer is gone. We can see several signs of discomfort and some facial expressions and gestures that indicate a kind of powerlessness, James believes.
– So far I have received support
For there is little doubt that Ole Gunnar Solskjær wants reinforcements, even though Manchester United have so far not been able to deliver on the transfer front.
Nevertheless, Solskjær says that he feels he gets the support he needs from the management.
– Of course I am very happy to work with the players I have. At the same time, part of the job is to constantly improve the stable you have. So far I have received support.
