RÜSSELSHEIM – There are cases in the neonatal intensive care unit of the Clinic for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at the GPR Clinic in Rüsselsheim where normal ventilation is not sufficient. In addition, medication must then be administered using a micropump nebulizer during ventilation, for example in order to effectively treat pneumonia.

The purchase of a second micropump nebulizer has long been on the wish list of the support association of the Clinic for Child and Adolescent Medicine in Rüsselsheim (Fips). Now this can be purchased thanks to a generous donation. The Ziegler family from Würzburg donated 1,500 euros to Fips and a further 500 euros to the nursing staff at the premature baby ward in the GPR.

At first glance, a donation from Würzburg seems unusual. But for Fabian Ziegler and his wife Sarah it was an affair of the heart. For both of them, the birth of their first child turned into an adventure that ended happily at the GPR: The couple was visiting their future grandparents in Wiesbaden when Sarah Ziegler unexpectedly had a rupture of her bladder, although she was only in the 35th week of the Pregnancy found. The first hospital headed for in Wiesbaden was not able to carry out a premature baby birth. Other hospitals in Wiesbaden, Mainz and Frankfurt also canceled due to capacity bottlenecks. The closest possible clinic with appropriate obstetrics was the GPR in Rüsselsheim. There the little Clara Christina was given birth with a birth weight of only 2370 grams. But as a premature baby she had to continue to be cared for in the neonatal intensive care unit. Mother Sarah and her daughter spent over three weeks in the clinic. Father Fabian commuted between Würzburg and Rüsselsheim in order to be with his family four days a week.

“That we had to go to the GPR clinic was the best thing that could have happened to us in this situation. We are still in contact with the pediatric nurses even after we are discharged. To express our gratitude, we decided to donate to both Fips and the nursing staff at the premature baby ward, ”said Fabian Ziegler. Senior physician Mario Berwald, chairman of the friends’ association, said: “We are of course particularly pleased that our entire team around the birth of Clara Christina made such a positive impression on the Ziegler family. This donation helps us tremendously. Medical equipment is very expensive, and many acquisitions and improvements are difficult to achieve without donations. ”
