Suara.com – The new study shows that pregnant mother infected corona virus Covid-19 varian Delta have a risk of dying in childbirth or experiencing stillborn baby higher.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), released a report recently that examined 1.2 million deliveries in 736 hospitals nationwide from March 2020 to September 2021.
Overall, out of 8,154 deliveries, stillbirth was very rare. However, researchers found that about 1 in 80 pregnant women infected with the Covid-19 coronavirus experienced stillbirth.
Among those with COVID-19, stillbirths are more common in pregnant women who have chronic high blood pressure and other complications, including those in intensive care or on a breathing machine.

“These findings underscore the importance of COVID-19 prevention strategies, including vaccination before or during pregnancy,” said CDC researcher Carla DeSisto. Fox News.
Currently, there is no information on how many pregnant women have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in the US. However, only 30 percent of pregnant women in the US have injected the Covid-19 vaccine after the Delta variant became dominant.
Apart from being at risk of dying in childbirth and stillbirth, pregnant women infected with the coronavirus are also more likely to develop severe illness, give birth to premature babies and other complications.
Although the risk of stillbirth is still relatively low, Dr Mark Turrentine, a professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, warns expectant mothers should not underestimate the dangers of infection with the Covid-19 coronavirus.
Dr Mark has also written recommendations regarding the Covid-19 vaccine for pregnant women in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Because, some experts speculate that the Covid-19 corona virus can cause inflammation of the placenta or other abnormalities that can harm the fetus.
However, Joseph Biggio, a high-risk specialist at Ochsner Health in New Orleans, said the study did not prove that coronavirus infection causes stillbirths.
Joseph suspected the study might find some pregnant women critically ill from the Covid-19 coronavirus, so doctors tried to keep them alive.
Researchers may rely on medical records and cannot determine whether a history of coronavirus infection during childbirth was the sole cause of stillbirth or not.
Generally, stillbirths are more at risk for black people, pregnant women over the age of 35 and people who smoke tobacco during pregnancy.
