Preeclampsia, the Highest Cause of Maternal Mortality in Indonesia

Jakarta, Gatra.com – One of the obstetricians and gynecologists from the Surabaya Fetomaternal Medical Association (HKFM), dr. Manggala Pasca Wardhana said that one of the highest causes of maternal mortality in Indonesia is preeclampsia or a hypertensive condition that occurs during pregnancy. And they are paying attention to it.

“It’s been a long time, huh. In fact, it is said, since 2013 we have announced a certain date that we want to warn as Preeclampsia Day, to increase awareness of preeclampsia, “he said, in a virtual education about preeclampsia in pregnant women, which was held on Friday afternoon, (21/5).

Manggala said, if you look at its history, World Preeclampsia Day or World Preeclampsia Day actually only appeared in 2017 and they echoed it first. However, in the world it is more echoed by the presence of a world organization that sponsors it and can be commemorated every year.

Meanwhile, according to him, the main problem of preeclampsia is actually faced not in developed countries, but rather in developing countries, one of which is in Indonesia.

“So I don’t think this belongs to developed countries, in fact it should be from ourselves, which greatly increases awareness about this preeclampsia. So, automatically at the same time, yesterday from the Fetomaternal Medical Association in Surabaya we thought, this May 22 is just about to pass. It should be, in essence, we think that the obstetrician only works daily operations, only ultrasound [Ultrasonografi] just every day, we have to raise awareness from the public regarding preeclampsia, “said Manggala.
