Prague is really alarming, says the hygienist. It is expected to be worse

Prague hygienists have limited the opening hours of pubs, bars and other similar establishments, and will remain closed between midnight and six o’clock in the morning. The regulation is valid from Wednesday, September 9, announced the director of Prague hygiene Zdeňka Jágrová.

The reason is that the facilities just mentioned are outbreaks, from which, according to hygienists, the covid-19 disease has spread most often recently.

“These facilities are significantly involved in the spread of the disease,” said the hygienist.

In addition, people will have to wear veils in shops and malls in Prague from Wednesday.

From Monday, September 14, drapes will be mandatory in the common interiors of schools, although pupils may remain without them in classrooms, gyms and cabinets.

The regulation applies to primary, secondary and tertiary schools, kindergartens have an exception. If a pupil or student becomes infected, it does not automatically mean closing the whole class, Jágrová specified.

Veils are already mandatory in public transport, at railway stations and at Václav Havel Airport.

Beginning community transfer

The Ministry of Health on Friday updated the so-called traffic light districts.

Prague remains on the third, orange level, in addition to the capital, there are also ten districts on the second level, marked in green. The districts of Hodonín, Beroun, Kladno, Mělník, Praha-východ, Praha-západ, Kolín, Příbram, Třebíč and Blansko were newly included in this level.

“In the vast majority of districts of the Czech Republic, these are seizures of sporadic, unique, non-generating dangerous and interregional clusters,” assesses the epidemiological situation by Chief Hygienist Jarmila Rážová.

However, according to the local hygienist Jágrová, community transmission is beginning in Prague, when it is difficult to trace the contacts of those infected.

“Unfortunately, the situation has not improved,” said the director of Prague hygiene. “It’s really alarming,” she added.

The risk spread of the disease is growing in the capital, an increase of 38% compared to the previous week. The number of cases reported in Prague in 14 days, calculated per 100 thousand inhabitants, attacks the limit of 100.

“Cases without a link to a known source of infection in the monitored period are around 30% of the total number of reported cases. However, with regard to the increase in cases, the number of cases without a known source of infection is also higher than in the last evaluated period, “said Jágrová.

In addition, hygienists expect a further increase. They estimate this from the high number of tests ordered for people who came into contact with those infected.

According to hygienists, the disease has so far been managed to stay out of the most risky groups. The share of newly diagnosed persons aged 65+ is about 10% of the total increases, in the category 75+ it is 5%.

But even here there is a noticeable shift for the worse. Compared to the previous period, the number of cases in vulnerable groups increased by 7%. And with this is the growing number of hospitalized.

“Over the last week, we have been seeing that the number of hospitalized is growing daily, which must lead us to greater caution,” says Rážová.

The disease is most often transmitted in the family or at the workplace, or at social and sporting events. A significant number of cases are also recorded by hygienists for foreign workers and tourists.
