PPKM Continues to be Relaxed, Luhut Affirms Jokowi’s Supreme Commander Against COVID

Jakarta

COVID-19 cases in Indonesia are starting to improve. Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said this achievement was thanks to the direction of Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who became the highest commander in handling COVID-19.

“What we have achieved in handling COVID is a good thing in welcoming Indonesia’s 76th Independence Day tomorrow. Of course this can be achieved thanks to the directives of the President of the Republic of Indonesia as the highest person in charge and the highest commander in handling COVID-19, ” say Luhut in a virtual press conference, Monday (16/8/2021).

Luhut explained that the organizational structure in handling COVID-19 was prepared to facilitate control. Therefore, he was appointed to coordinate the handling of COVID-19 in Java-Bali. Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto was tasked with coordinating the handling of COVID-19 outside Java-Bali.

“Once again, the organizational structure is structured in such a way as to facilitate control, so that the Minister of Economy is responsible for regions outside Java-Bali and I am responsible for Java-Bali. Because this concerns the span of control, now also coordinate so many institutions involved,” he said.

“It is also necessary to realize that it is not as easy as people say that it is easy to do,” added Luhut.

Luhut also said that the achievement of reducing COVID-19 cases in Indonesia was due to the cooperation of all parties. He continued, this achievement in handling COVID-19 is a good thing in welcoming Independence Day.

“Once again, the Government is not fully satisfied with the above achievements, for that the Government will continue to work to resolve and get out of this pandemic storm,” he said.

PPKM Level 4 Relaxed

The improvement in COVID-19 cases in Indonesia does not make the government complacent. Therefore, the implementation of Level 4 Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in Java-Bali was extended until August 23, 2021.

However, there have been a number of easings. One of them, the mall/shopping center visit rate will be increased to 50% and provide access to eat on the spot or dine in 25% or 2 people per table.

Group outdoor sports activities are also now allowed with a number of conditions. Then, the capacity of places of worship is allowed up to 50%.

“The government will also increase the capacity of places of worship to 50 percent in regency cities with PPKM levels 4 and 3. Of course also with the implementation of good health protocols,” said Luhut.
