WILLEMSTAD – At least 70% of Curaçao experienced a power outage on Thursday afternoon, which is considered a ‘brown out’, a partial power outage, instead of a total blackout. According to the initial information from the island’s electricity company, Aqualectra, one of their main distribution centers at Loodcenter Nijlweg experienced a malfunction.
Several areas experienced power supply problems due to this outage, a statement from the company said. It is still unknown how long the problems will last. It is striking that Curaçao again has to deal with power problems on a Thursday. The last two times that there were problems, including complete blackouts, also occurred on a Thursday.
