The LREM candidate for mayor of Reims, lawyer Gérard Chemla, reacts to the Rugy affair. He also returns to the demonstrators gassed on the Sully bridge in Paris, a few days ago.

He spoke via his Facebook account this Sunday. Gérard Chemla evokes a “malaise”.
“As last year with the Benalla affair, these days, the French are wondering and are indignant”, he wrote straight away, before detailing:“At the beginning of July, demonstrators who appeared peaceful were gassed on the Sully bridge in Paris, it seems, for no legitimate reason. In recent days, the De Rugy affair has shaken the press and fueled controversy. ”
He wants a quick response from the government: “These“ cases ”in that they question the exercise of political power and refer to the idea of“ all the same ”must be dealt with urgently and clearly. I have a horror of injustice and therefore of ready-made judgment. I am not unaware of the difference between the crime and the political fault, of the capacity of manipulation of the opinion by a sometimes misleading press. “
Gérard Chemla specifies:“I understand that a politician for the needs of his function benefits from the gold of the Republic. He must in no case derive personal benefit or undue advantage from it, except by sending a terrible message back to the “people”. “
He indicates :“The power must be irreproachable and avoid autism. “
“The presumption of innocence does not exist at this level of responsibility”
Gérard Chemla continues:“It is healthy that an investigation has been ordered into the events at the Sully Bridge. The prosecution should communicate very regularly on its progress so that no one can imagine that the opening of an investigation means a first-class burial. ” Regarding the Minister: “Mr. De Rugy sends back, rightly or wrongly, a deplorable image which will hamper the action of the government and shake the confidence of the French. The mere fact that there was a question of reimbursement raises questions. This central government minister cannot be suspect. Either the answers are given to us in a striking and immediate way, or he must himself draw the consequences of what he represents today and put himself on vacation from the Republic. “
And to assert: “We were intractable with candidate Fillon. We did not wait for him to be tried before considering that he should no longer be able to compete for the supreme office. We cannot be different today. The presumption of innocence does not exist at this level of responsibility. Please, Minister of State, be up to your office, do not further undermine the credit of the power you must serve. “
