Postal voting begins in Hamburg

Just six weeks before the general election, the postal vote begins this morning (8:00 a.m.) in Hamburg. In the 13 electoral offices of the district offices, the documents can be applied for, received, the ballot papers filled out and also immediately returned, as reported by the regional election officer Oliver Rudolf. Applications for absentee voting have been able to be submitted online since Monday. In view of the corona pandemic, Rudolf expects a new record for postal votes and a share of up to 50 percent.

As early as the 2017 federal election, the number of postal voters in Hamburg rose significantly by 6.5 percentage points to 37.0 percent compared to 2013. A total of 364,000 voters cast their votes by letter. Only in Bavaria was the proportion even higher at 37.3 percent.
