Portugal prepares for coronavirus and activates prevention devices

Portugal has already triggered public health devices due to the coronavirus coming from China and has the São João Hospital in Porto, Curry Cabral and Estefânia in Lisbon on alert, said the director-general of Health this Wednesday.

In a press conference at the headquarters of the Directorate-General for Health, in Lisbon, Graça Freitas said that the protocols established for such situations were activated. The Director-General of Health said that “there are no suspicious cases in Portugal” of infections with coronavirus, there is no alarm situation, but he stressed that health authorities are monitoring the situation as a precaution. It is the latter that cause Portugal the most concern, considering that the virus is transmissible between humans. Graça Freitas explained that there are international protocols to prevent the virus from being exported from China, with the screening being done at the source, before traveling by train, plane or boat.

In its prevention scheme, Portugal also has a protocol with the High Commissioner for Migration to provide translation services if necessary.
