Porto makes 35,000 vinyl records available for public listening

Fonoteca Municipal de Vinil opens in September, with a regular program and guided listening.

Everything that cannot be found on Spotify will be available, starting in September, at the Fonoteca Municipal de Vinil, in Porto. Announced two years ago, and now completed, this publicly accessible musical project includes more than 35,000 records and will include a regular program that includes guided listening, thematic podcasts, educational project for schools and concerts curated by musicians who previously want to explore that musical heritage , whose time tape starts in the pre-April 25th period, the time of the strikethrough themes.

The idea of transforming a dead and closed deposit into an accessible and alive patrimony came from Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto and councilor of Culture, who wanted to make public the collection of the municipal sound archive, which in recent years benefited from two donations from Portuguese Broadcasting and Rádio Renascença. “More than a sound library, cataloging and restoring, the Fonoteca is a project to encourage artistic creation”, he explained to JN.
