On Sunday evening, the idyll was broken by an accident that was to have fatal consequences, when a 21 meter long luxury yacht crashed into the rock near Porto Cervo.

Couldn’t save

According to The Independent a British, 63-year-old man lost his life in the accident. The person must have been the owner of the yacht.

The 63-year-old was unconscious when the Coast Guard arrived at the scene of the accident.

However, the injuries were to prove fatal. According to local media, the man died shortly after the rescue was in place.

A further six people who were on board the boat were injured. For two of the people, the injuries were assessed as serious and they must have been taken to hospital.

Tried to avoid accident

According to The Independent, the incident must have occurred while the yacht was sailing past the Li Nibani Islands, which are located outside Porto Cervo.

Reports suggest that the incident may have occurred when the yacht’s captain attempted to maneuver the ship to avoid colliding with another boat.

The vessel is said to have been half submerged after the fatal crash. After the collision, the yacht was salvaged and towed to the harbor in Porto Cervo.
