“Pope Francis Appoints Monsignor Pierre-Yves Michel as New Bishop of Nancy-Toul”

A new religious hierarch will take over the diocese of Nancy-Toul. So has just decided Pope Francis who appointed, this Thursday, Monsignor Pierre-Yves Michel bishop of Nancy-Toul. This 63-year-old native of Roanne (Loire) takes the place of Monsignor Papin who resigns for reasons of age.

The latter, who has had an incredible longevity since he has been in post in Meurthe-et-Moselle since 1999, has indeed reached the age of 75. However, this age is critical in the Catholic Church since canon law provides that bishops must at this time send their letter of resignation to the pope. That of Monsignor Papin was accepted.

His successor was until now bishop of Valence in the Drome. Previously, he held various positions as vicar and parish priest in the diocese of Lyon.
