The National Security Council (CNS), which is to meet on Wednesday morning, is expected to make initial announcements regarding the deconfinement of the cultural sector from next Monday.

The ministers in charge of Culture of the federated entities, as well as the Minister of Finance and the Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès, spoke on Tuesday during an interministerial conference on Culture the situation of the sector, heavily impacted by the health crisis .

Several measures, such as the reopening of libraries or those of museums, have already been announced. But others should follow Wednesday, in particular to allow the resumption of creative activity within cultural operators, but without any resumption of public representations at this stage.

In this regard, Flanders and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation have already agreed on joint proposals for a second phase of deconfinement of the sector, with proposals for the resumption of cultural activities from June, July or August.

The agreement, which contains different modalities for the sanitary distancing between spectators, will be discussed in the coming weeks by the experts responsible for developing the strategy for leaving containment (GEES).

While the cultural sector has lost 93% of its financial revenue since the start of containment, the various ministers also discussed on Tuesday the support to be provided to all actors in the cultural production chain.

Although everyone agreed on the need to do more in terms of aid, no concrete measures were adopted on Tuesday, it was said at the end of the meeting. The creation of culture vouchers, or an extension of meal vouchers to the cultural sector, was not discussed at this stage.
