Pope for Ukraine: “In the name of God, I ask you: Stop this massacre!”

On Sunday, after praying for the “Angel of the Lord,” Pope Francis again insisted on ending the war in Ukraine.

Jānis Evertovskis – Vatican

“Brothers and sisters,” he said, “we have just prayed to the Virgin Mary. This week, the city of Mariupol, named after Mary, became a city of martyrdom in this heartbreaking war that ravaged Ukraine. There is no valid strategic reason for the barbaric killing of children, innocent people and vulnerable civilians: all that needs to be done is to put an end to unacceptable armed aggression before turning cities into cemeteries. With pain in my heart, I join the people’s voice calling for an end to the war.

“In the name of God, let the cry of the sufferers be heard, and let the bombings and attacks be stopped.”

Let there be a decisive and real focus on the negotiations and effective and safe humanitarian corridors. In the name of God, I ask you: stop this massacre! ”

The Pope then called on the public to take in the refugees and pray even more for peace. He said:

“I would like to call once again for the many refugees in whom Christ is present and for the extensive network of solidarity that has developed. I ask all dioceses and religious communities to increase their moments of prayer for peace. God is only a God of peace, not a God of war. He who supports violence blasphemes His name. Now let us pray in silence for those who are suffering, and for God to change their hearts to be determined to seek peace. ”
