Politicians in New Zealand cycled to the hospital and gave birth an hour later

Few take cycling as far as the former Minister of the Greens.

Gentlemen and their partner, Peter Nunns, in the parking garage at Auckland Hospital.

Night to Saturday, Julie Anne Genter noticed that it was approaching.

The 41-year-old politician is a Member of Parliament for the Green Party in New Zealand. She was also pregnant, and now she felt the pain coming. Not too powerful, but enough that it was time to go.

So she and her cohabitant set course for the hospital – by bicycle.

CNN and several other international media were quick to write about the somewhat special trip to the delivery room.

“I love my bike,” Genter wrote on his Facebook profile. She is a politician in the Green Party, which is in government in New Zealand. Until the election last year, she was Minister for Women, and she has been involved in the government’s commitment to cheaper public transport and better bicycle infrastructure.

New Zealand has set a goal that 30 percent of the country’s cars will be electric during 2035. The authorities also have a goal that car travel will then be reduced by 20 percent.

Julie Anne Genter is definitely doing her part of the job.

The ride on the electric bike to the hospital in Auckland was done in ten minutes. Just an hour after she cycled away from home, the birth was over and the politician had become a mother of two.

Also the first time she gave birth she cycled to the hospital herself.

“I really had not planned to cycle during the birth, but that was what happened,” she wrote on her Facebook page on Saturday. “And now we have an incredibly healthy little one who sleeps, as her father does.”
