Policemen involved in accident in Cartagena must pay damages – Other Cities – Colombia

The Cartagena Metropolitan Police rejected the behavior of the two uniformed men who on Saturday night caused a traffic accident in the Villa Rosita neighborhood, as a consequence of the state of impasse where they were.

According to the official report, the officials were flagrantly captured and confined in a cell.

The situation was evidenced in a video broadcast through social networks, in which the inhabitants of the sector recriminate the uniformed men for the state they were in and for the damage they caused in the area.

“After learning the facts, the National Police acted immediately in coordination with the Military and Police Criminal Justice, the Office of Internal Disciplinary Control and the district traffic authorities,” underlines the statement issued this Sunday by the Cartagena Police.

The institution reported that the two uniformed officers must answer for five possible crimes: “Abandonment of the post, illegal use of uniforms and insignia, illegal carrying of State firearms, damage to State property, and damage to the property of others,” the release.

The Police also reported that the procedure was carried out with the District Traffic Authority (DATT) and the patrol driver dmust pay a fine corresponding to 1,440 legal daily minimum wages in force, for refusing to take the drunkenness test. “Therefore, Law 1696 of 2013 was applied, which also provides for the cancellation of the driving license.”

Medical examinations performed on the two uniformed allowed to check “the presence of clinical signs of drunkenness in the two uniformed”, who, in addition, must pay for the damages caused to the vehicle compromised in the collision.

“Once they are heard in investigatory proceedings, the Judge of Military and Police Criminal Investigation will proceed to define their legal situation,” the institution’s statement states.
