Policeman from Hrušek: Returning home brought a picture of doom. And then came a miracle

The storm heading south of Moravia on Thursday evening left Zdeněk, a civilian police officer, quite calm. There have already been such. From the large window in the kitchen, she watched the elements begin to riot. But the spectacle quickly reached other dimensions. Various things began to fly in the wind.

“When I saw the aviary with the birds rising, everything flying around the house, I ran to hide. I bet on the bathroom, “the woman describes. She did well, because the triple window from the kitchen to the courtyard couldn’t withstand, and then there was a hole in it.

The tornado left a trigger outside and inside the Snopkov houses.

After a week, thanks to the help of volunteers, the area around the house is tidy.

“I barricaded myself in the bathroom and held the door. It crumbled with the whole house, and every time something came loose and destroyed, it was a blow. Eventually, the tornado destroyed the bathroom window.

I broke through the broken door down the street and saw the trigger. More of us gathered and we immediately started looking for other neighbors.

“I was holding the bathroom door and I had no way to protect myself. I grabbed the door of the toilet closet and covered my face with it, “he recalls fateful moments.

Where are the neighbors?

As the tornado headed on to Moravská Nová Ves, she dared to open the bathroom. She waded out of the house with water on the floor, piles of shards and debris. “I was wearing a swimsuit and a T-shirt, slippers. I broke through the broken door down the street and saw the trigger. “More of us got together and we immediately started looking for other neighbors,” she said.

Some neighbors told them through the gate that they had no way out. They helped them on the street and began inspecting the damage, informing their families of what had happened.

Her partner was working night shifts at the time. Jaroslav Snopek is a police officer, working as an operations officer. Many people know him thanks to his voice and talent for singing as a singer of wind music Zlaťulka.

When I came to us, it was an indescribable sight. Rival. An image of doom. But then came an incredible experience. We have been offered countless willing hands to help.

“I thought it would be a shift like any other. I soon found out that it wasn’t, “says the man, who, after being informed about what was happening in the village, was replaced by his colleagues on duty and sent home.

“When I came to us, it was an indescribable sight. Rival. An image of doom. But then came an incredible experience. We have been offered countless willing hands to help. Our friends came to us from afar and helped, “says Snopek.

The fact that he was at work on a fateful night saved the family at least part of the property. While Zdeňka’s car was damaged by a tornado and the owner does not know where it actually ended, the car he left for service avoided the tornado. But the tornado destroyed the car of his colleague from Lanžhot. The police therefore arrange and commute shifts together, so a colleague left his own at their house.

“We are in solidarity together and we put together help not only for Snopkov, but also for a colleague who needs a car to take the child to the doctor,” said Iva Brhelová from the same police station.

Jaroslav is not currently into singing. “Unfortunately, the house is not yet insured. We have a difficult time ahead of us, there will be a lot of things to do. But we survived. And we have hands, somehow we can handle it. There are others and many are even worse. Many thanks to those who helped us, “says Snopek.
