Several people would walk around with weapons at the fair in the Ypenburg district, the police were told. When the police showed up at the fair, the young people fled. The fake firearms they carried were hidden under vehicles or thrown away. Carrying fake firearms is prohibited because the weapons can be used to threaten someone.
No arrests were made. The police have asked the fair operator not to offer the weapons anymore. But, a spokesperson emphasizes, it is not up to the police to determine what can be offered at a fair: “The municipality gives permission for a fair and determines what can be sold.”
The police will discuss this with the municipality of The Hague tomorrow.
