Police – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – An alleged burglar, dressed all in black, was seen on surveillance video breaking into a Deli store on Staten Island through a small hole in the wall. One of several robberies where the suspect has taken a large amount of money.

The store clerk, Sheehan Pererer, walked into the business and saw that the ATM was checked and the safe was open.

“It’s like crazy what’s going on,” said Pererera, our sister network NBC 4.

The suspect apparently climbed through the roof tiles of the store next door, the week of November 1, before finally entering the store. Grand Delfino Deli on Great Kills, Deputy Inspector Levon Holly told our sister network NBC New York.

According to the police, the bandit had stolen a sum of $ 10,000 from the store. However, it is not the first time that the police believe that this suspect has stolen. Four other thefts have been reported in four other Staten Island districts, totaling more than $ 100,000 in illicit proceeds.

There is no surveillance video of any of the other thefts because the alleged thief has a tendency to take over the system, however in the most recent case he did not do so for some reason.

The thefts come at a time when small businesses, like those that have been attacked, are struggling to make ends meet. Pererer said the Deli has lost about 40% of its business this year.

“Most of the stores are family stores that sacrifice their own safety to help people in the community have what they need,” Holley said.

Anyone with information about the thefts should contact the police or the NYPD Major Crimes Unit at 1-888-57-PISTA.
