The Grand Rapids Police Department, Michigan, has released a video showing a white police officer shooting a black detainee lying on his stomach in the street from behind in the head.
This was preceded by a long struggle. The detainee would have obtained the taser from the agent, but that is not clearly visible on the video. Then the officer who is now sitting on top of the detainee pulls his weapon and pulls the trigger.
The recording was made on April 4 by someone with a telephone. The police had arrested the victim, 26-year-old Patrick Lyoya, because there was something wrong with his number plate. Lyoya fled on foot. On the first images on which he can be seen, the officer tries to overpower the man. After the shot is fired, the officer calls someone, presumably a colleague.
