Police receive several tips about cold case Sedar Soares | Inland

The teen died in 2003 after being hit by a bullet. He was throwing snowballs with friends at a Rotterdam metro station. It was long thought that Sedar was shot dead for throwing snowballs at a motorist.

Police believe, after new investigations, that he was unintentionally and innocently the victim of a rip deal that was going on nearby, it became clear on Thursday. “The police have no choice but to draw the sad conclusion that Sedar was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

The cold case team drew attention to the case again in 2020. Since then, several witnesses have come forward with new information. “The combination of the previous investigation findings and the new statements of witnesses means that the cold case team is now assuming a new scenario,” reads a statement. “From now on, the investigation will also focus entirely on this scenario.”

More witnesses

Police are now looking for more witnesses, including people who may have told their story before. “We realize that there are reasons why people may not have told their (full) story at the time. The hope is that the circumstances for these people have also changed in the meantime, so that they now want to tell their story to us.”

40,000 euros has been offered for the golden tip. An anonymous tip line has also been opened. According to the police, there are strong indications that there is more knowledge about the case within the Antillean community.
