Police: Open flames from industrial area

At 23.30, the emergency services responded to a report of smoke development from an industrial area in Kaupanesveien on Eigerøya, Egersund.

– It was reported by someone who saw the fire from several hundred meters away, says operations manager Steinar Knudsen to TV 2.

There are open flames in a detached house. There is no danger of it spreading, he says. No persons have been reported in the locked industrial area.

Is this an industrial area where the smoke is likely to be particularly harmful?

– We have no indication that the smoke is harmful. The place does metal recycling. But we do not know what is inside this burning house. And it is fair to say that all smoke from fire can be harmful, says Knudsen.

The police state that there is a light wind, so the smoke does not spread much. There are also limited buildings in the area.

At 01.04, the police in the South-West state that they have control of the place. One possible cause was self-ignition in rubbish. The police are opening a case.
