District Prosecutor’s Office – Plovdiv prosecuted two persons who participated in an attempt to defraud an insurance agency, reports BNT. One of the accused is a police officer, a former traffic police officer.
The employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been charged with having helped a person who committed a crime by thwarting the criminal proceedings. The uniformed man and two other people attempted to deceive an insurance company after a serious accident in order to receive compensation from the insurer.
Against the police officer and the owner of the car, measures were taken for non-abortion “cash guarantee”, respectively of BGN 3,000 and BGN 10,000.
In December 2021, the traffic police officer was in the company of two men who consumed a substantial amount of alcohol. The owner gave the keys to the car to a third party from the company. The man drove the car, but soon after crashed in the area of Parvomai.
The car was completely crushed, and the driver escaped with only minor injuries. The driver turned to the police officer for assistance in order to escape criminal liability. The uniformed officer explained that there was no way the insurers would pay, as the accident occurred after the consumption of alcohol. Therefore, he proposed to make an exchange of drivers.
So a third person, a friend of the drunk driver, took the blame for the accident. After which the accused made an attempt to obtain BGN 90,000 Casco insurance.
In this case, pre-trial proceedings have been initiated for a traffic accident with material damage.
For attempted fraud, the punishment provided by the law is imprisonment from 1 to 6 years, and for personal concealment – up to 5 years.
