Police arrest two men for bank teller fraud | Technician

The police have two 20-year-olds from Assen and Hoogezand on Tuesday arrested on suspicion of fraud to the bank help desk. They would have stolen tens of thousands of euros.

Bank help desk fraud is a form of fraud where scammers call from a bank’s existing phone number. So they pretend to be a bank employee to scam people.

This can be done, for example, by asking victims to install software on their computer with which the scammers can remotely watch or perform actions. In other cases, someone from the bank allegedly comes to collect the debit card urgently from the victim’s home and the PIN is stolen.

Both men are suspected of computer hacking, fraud, money laundering and possession of non-public personal data.

Two victims reported the theft. They would have lost a total of tens of thousands of euros. It is unclear whether the two men suffered any other casualties.
