Lewandowski plays for Bayern Munich and Piatek for Hertha Berlin and the German clubs have the right to stop their players from national team games. The reason is that they can miss several matches if they need to be quarantined after returning to Germany.
“The Prime Minister asked the Chancellor to introduce equal and fair rules for all who are to represent his country, rules that the Polish Bundesliga players could use,” Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Pawel Jablonski told the Polish state news agency PAP earlier on Saturday.
