Pokémon Scarlet and Violet announced for Switch; release this year

During the Pokémon Presents, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet were announced! You can expect these mainline games on the Nintendo Switch at the end of this year. Unfortunately, an exact release date has not yet been given.

Yesterday it was exactly 26 years ago that the first Pokémon games came out in Japan. To celebrate the anniversary of the franchise, a Pokémon Presents was broadcast. The Watcher takes you through the biggest announcements, starting with new mainline games: Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Two more new Pokémon mainline games are coming to Nintendo Switch this year. These are Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Check out the first images in the trailer below:

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are going to be open world games. On the Pokémon site, it’s described like this:

Several cities merge seamlessly into the wilderness, without boundaries. You will be able to see the Pokémon of this region in the sky, in the sea, in the woods, on the street – everywhere! You can now experience the real fun of the Pokémon series – fighting wild Pokémon to capture them – in an open world game.

The game reminds the Watcher of a kind of cross between Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and Pokémon Sword and Shield. But then in an even livelier world, with a kind of Spanish touch.

Anyway, enough about the world! Much more important are the new Gen 9 Pokémon. We were already shown the three starters, namely: Sprigatito (grass), Fuecoco (fire) and Quaxly (water).

The reveal of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet took place at the end of the 13-minute Pokémon Presents. And let’s be honest: most people’s expectations were not that high at all… No wonder that the announcement of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (just now) is so well received!

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are expected to arrive on Nintendo Switch at the end of this year.
