This is so far just a rumor. Yet, the reaction by press release of the mairie de Poitiers, to put an end to this Sunday after-noon calls, two weeks before the second round of the municipal elections. The prospect of a possible installation of a Mcdonald’s in the city centre of Poitiers fuels the anger of an online petition for at least three days and beyond Monday evening, the 2,000 signatures.
No project at this location
The petition request to the city Hall of Poitiers to counter the installation of a restaurant of the american chain of fast food restaurants rue du Marché Notre Dame, the location of the store Orange just closed.

The local is not suitable for activity restoration. But national brands of clothing or accessories for the house are interested in this place and have taken information from merchants of commercial assets.
In the communiqué issued on Sunday afternoon, Bernard Cornu, deputy to the Urban planning, explains that”there is no project of Mcdonald’s Market street, Our Lady”. It states : “Any administrative procedure is not in progress with the city in this direction”. While restaurant owners resume their activity after several weeks of confinement, he continues : “we must be extremely vigilant not to (…) destabilize or (…) weaken (the catering offer in the town centre)”.

No comment from Mcdonald’s, but the interest…
Mcdonald’s does not wish to comment on this subject for the moment. In the middle of the rental of shops, the sign is, as suggested in the town hall, known for its interest in the city centre of Poitiers for four or five years. Regular contact is made between the lessors and the representatives of the american multinational.
For its part, the association Poitiers, the Centre states that it does not intend to be a position for or against such or such implementation (Poitiers the Center represents all of the merchants in the city centre, they are independent, local, succursalistes, national or international.
The fact that signs as important as those who are planning to install in the shop Orange and the existence of an interest of Mcdonald’s to the city centre are all positive signs for the attractiveness of the city centre of Poitiers.

The town hall, this Sunday, reminds us “not to be the owner of the walls of the premises”. “We don’t have our word to say…”
Call to “vigilance”
For its part, the merchant signatory recalls that municipalities can, however, “influence” on what kind of project brought by big brands and “bargain”.
At the origin of the online petition, Marion Boussarie has added to its text on Monday evening a mention of the information given by the town council on the unsuitability of the premises for a restaurant business. She stated to us, in view of the denial of the deputy judge not “useful to add oil on the fire”. It nevertheless finds its text in line by thanking the viewers, with this exclamation : “let us remain united and in solidarity for the future of our beautiful city !”
