The Poison Center, affiliated to the Faculty of Medicine at Alexandria University, issued strong warnings to citizens regarding the cycus plant and that it afflicts humans with liver failure because it contains a carcinogen.
The center stated, in a statement, Saturday, regarding the toxicity of the cycas palm tree, that all parts of the cycas plant are toxic, especially the seeds, as they contain the highest level of the toxic substance cycasin, which causes irritation of the digestive system.
The center explained that if high doses of plants are consumed, the human liver will fail, in addition to the fact that cycacin contains a carcinogen, according to what has been revealed by recent international scientific research in this regard.

He continued: “The toxicity of the plant along with its effect on humans, and in the event that it is eaten by pets, the matter may reach the death of the animal immediately.” The center stressed that the rumors that natural plants are non-toxic is not true, as there are poisonous natural plants, including cycas.
