Poetic walk, poetry readings, music and exhibitions – Poetry Days are celebrated in Jurmala / Article

Poetry days in Jūrmala will be welcomed with poetry readings by Rainis pines, a poetic walk in the restored historical Ķemeri resort park, the opening of the exhibition in Aspazija House and street music and poetry readings at Kauguri Culture House, the representatives of Jūrmala City Council informed.

On September 10, from 18.00 to 20.00, poets Edvīns Raups, Semjons Hanins, Madara Gruntmane, Sergejs Timofejevs, Pēteris Draguns, Krišjānis Zeļģis and Ērika Bērziņa will invite you to a poetic walk through Ķemeri Historical Park. During the walk, visitors will be able to enjoy poetry readings and songs in Latvian and Russian. The poetry trail will start at the Ķemeri water tower, further along the Ķemeri Orthodox Church will take you to Mīlestības saliņa, Ķemeri park parterre area, to the sulfur spring “Ķirzaciņa”.

To commemorate the 156th birthday of the great Latvian poetry Rainis, the traditional Poetry Days event will take place at the Rainis pines on September 11 at 1 pm, this year entitled “Buried Manta”. Poets Marts Pujāts, Katrīna Rudzīte, Jānis Elsbergs, Agnese Rutkēviča, Madara Grīsle will take part in it, music by Sniedze Prauliņa and Edgars Šubrovskis with the group “JUUK”.

The work of master students of the Department of Glass Art of the Latvian Academy of Arts will be opened at Aspazija House on September 11 at 16.00 exhibition “Aspasia. Green bride. Interpretation in glass ”. The opening of the exhibition will feature compositions by composer Jānis Ķiršs from Aspazija’s play “Green Bride” performed by the radio production group “Framest”. Adrians Briedis-Makovejs and Daina Jansone-Treice will read their poetry at the Kauguri Culture House at 3.00 pm, Adrians Kukuvass will play music.

The poet Marts Pujāts will read poetry for children from the collection “Ej nu ej” on September 12 at 13.00, musical poetic surprises are also expected.

Until September 19, a poetry exhibition “Deer Poetry in Pine Sails” dedicated to the poet Jonas Jurmelis will be on display at the House of Culture.
