“PlayStation VR2 Hardware Authentication Hacked for PC Compatibility”

This will make it easier to use Sony’s virtual reality headset on a PC in the future.

The PlayStation VR2 has been available for two and a half months, and Sony has not yet spoken about its sales data (although we would have expected some data during their quarterly business report!), but what is delayed does not matter. Until then, there are other developments around the VR headset. Compared to Meta Quest, it is much more complicated to use Sony’s device on a PC, but the first step towards success has already been taken. The NeoGAF forum because a topic appeared that said that the hardware authentication of the PlayStation VR2 had been hacked.

iVRy published a picture of this on On Twitterand he is skilled in virtual reality, because he is such a Steamer application created, which can be used to force the use of VR headsets in programs. The people who did the hacking, on the other hand, are not willing to talk publicly about how they achieved this result (since Sony would almost immediately hang a lawsuit over their necks…), but iVRy saidthat the PlayStation VR2 system is quite closed, and Sony may still exclude them if Sony changes the authentication of accessories on the PlayStation 5, but according to him, there is not much chance of that, because they should encourage the company to do so, because at the moment that is all that is involved , so that consumers can also use the headset on a PC.

The headset can get some sort of compatibility driver, as DSX and DS4Windows appeared that year. With these, you can use PlayStation controllers in unsupported games (e.g. the first Overwatch). The PlayStation VR2 does not have such a driver, and its creation also takes time, as they have to decode the USB protocols. This is a complex and guesswork task, plus they would need expensive hardware. The whole idea could be overturned by Sony if the company itself publishes an official driver that would allow the PlayStation VR2 to be used for VR games outside of the PlayStation 5 (e.g. the first PlayStation VR!).

We’ll see if iVRy, or maybe Sony, will be the first to publicize the set of tools necessary for PlayStation VR2 PC support…
