Players reporting a boot loop issue after PS4 firmware update 7.50

Sony rolled out the PlayStation 4 firmware update 7.50 to all users a day ago, with few release notes other than improving system performance. However, a number of users have visited sites like Reddit to report that their consoles have been in an infinite startup loop since the update.

“He forced mine into a safe mode loop where he initially requests the update file via USB (blue light at startup, turns white),” said user Portions4Many. “If cancel is selected, it will go out. I can boot into safe mode, but after browsing options 1, 2, 3 (via the Internet), 4, 5, nothing changes – it just goes back to the USB request menu. “

Some users have successfully updated their consoles by downloading the firmware from the Sony website. However, their systems apparently return to USB requests with the error CE-34788-0.

When Portions4Many contacted a Sony representative, he received the following response:

To resolve this issue, you can visit our website https://support.playstation.com. Please also note that the PlayStation repair service is currently closed to US consumers. Although we sympathize with our consumers, there is no estimate of when the repair center will reopen.

When asked if it means the console is masonry, the Sony representative responded by saying that the aforementioned website is the “best resource available at the moment for solving it.”

Some users are also reporting problems with the Blu-ray player. Several users who have tried to update their consoles still receive the error code SU-42118-6 which prevents the installation of the firmware. Others have said that their Blu-ray players are now having trouble reading discs.
