Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting: Robert Bowers Receives Death Sentence for Deadliest Anti-Semitism Attack in US History

In Pittsburgh, US, a jury has pronounced a verdict on Robert Bowers, who committed a deadly terrorist attack 5 years ago. For the execution of 11 parishioners of the Tree of Life synagogue, he was sentenced to death.

This is reported CNN.

During the meeting, it turned out that Bowers, armed with a rifle and pistols, broke into the synagogue during Shabbat prayers and started shooting at parishioners. His anti-Semitic threats posted online preceded this horrific act of violence, and he was a well-known face in organizations associated with the Jewish community.

This horrific event was the largest anti-Semitism-related massacre in US history. It killed 11 parishioners who represented three different congregations gathered in the same building. In addition, six other people were injured, including four police officers who arrived at the scene in an attempt to prevent this tragedy.

As a result, the court handed down the death sentence for Bowers – this is the first such sentence in the United States during the administration of President Joe Biden. The defense tried to make arguments about the unstable mental state of the accused at the time of the crime, but the jury did not recognize them as convincing, and the court came to a decision on the death penalty.
