Pirate Luxury Items Worth $35M Seized In New York City Raids

Hundreds of apocryphal or ‘pirate’ luxury items were seized by the New York police on the streets of Manhattan.

The authorities reported that they carried out a raid on September 6 along Canal Street, famous for the sale of these products.

On his Twitter account, John Chell, chief of police patrols, indicated that the operation was carried out after complaints from businesses and passers-by.

“After receiving numerous complaints, the operation was carried out where some $35 million in contraband products were seized on Canal Street,” he reported.

In addition, 18 people were arrested for selling them.

In total, authorities filled about three trucks with merchandise.

In the videos shared by the authorities, it is observed that most of the merchandise was imitation luxury brand bags, glasses and wallets.

On Wednesday morning, delays were recorded after the windows of at least 36 trains were vandalized. Most services are now operating normally, while Line W remains suspended. The MTA estimates that it will be necessary to invest nearly half a million dollars to repair the damage. “We are looking for those responsible because this is a crime for the city,” said MTA spokesperson Joana Flores.
