One dead and three injured are the accounts of the tragedy that occurred on Tuesday morning on Neorion Street in Pasalimani, Piraeus, after the collapse of part of a two-story abandoned building, in which work was being carried out.
A 31-year-old policeman, who according to information served in the DIAS group of Southeast Attica and worked on a truck to supplement his income, died at the scene.
According to the information from the Fire Department, at the fatal moment, shortly after 9 am, the man was inside the vehicle which was crushed by construction materials, resulting in the 31-year-old being pulled out unconscious.
It is worth noting that 24 firefighters rushed to the scene of the accident with 8 vehicles and a special team from EMAK investigating for trapped people.
The contractor was arrested
The authorities are conducting investigations to establish the reasons why part of the two-story building, built in 1958, collapsed. Specifically, the investigations are focused on the type of work that preceded the collapse and what provision was made for the safety of the workers.
At the same time, EL.AS. proceeded to arrest the contractor who had undertaken the maintenance work, as well as eight other people, three of whom are hospitalized.
In particular, the contractor was brought in with six other people, who testified to the authorities about the accident.
