Arjen Robben will not participate at FC Groningen in the friendly match against Werder Bremen in Germany on Saturday. The 36-year-old attacker stays in the Netherlands, where he completes an individual program.
Robben made his comeback in the FC Groningen shirt last Saturday during the exhibition game with Almere City, in which he played the first half hour as planned.
After that match, the 96-time Orange-international already announced that he is working on his fitness step by step. “I’m not there yet, but I’m taking good steps”, he said, among other things.
Robben is not the only FC Groningen player who does not travel to Germany. This also applies to Jan de Boer, Görkem Can, Ahmed El Messaoudi, Patrick Joosten and Nicklas Strunck.
The match against Werder in Lohne, Germany, is the penultimate test in the run-up to the Eredivisie start for the team of trainer Danny Buijs. The preparation will be concluded next Sunday in their own stadium with a match against Arminia Bielefeld.
