(Agency One) – President Sebastian Piñera He referred this Thursday to the immigration bill being discussed in the Senate and questioned the indications made by the opposition to the initiative.
The president stated that “Chile has always been an open and welcoming country with those who want to come to live in our country “, since “we appreciate and value the contribution to development, diversity, and culture that migrants from Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and many other latitudes have made.”
However, he stated that “We want to order our house, because there was a time when migration was uncontrolled, and many people entered Chile illegally, which constitutes a deception for those people and I think that is not what the country needs ”.
“For this reason, a golden rule on migration that our government is promoting and that is in our bill that is in Congress is that those who want to come to live in our country have to start by respecting our laws and for respecting our rule of law, “he added.
The head of state indicated that “we we are not going to allow illegal immigration, because it harms Chileans and the migrants themselves”.
“Secondly, we do not agree with the proposal made by some senators which consists of any person who shows up at the border of our country and says that they want to look for work will be given a visa and their situation will be regularized ”, he added.

The president assured that “That’s not what Chileans want”, except “in the times we live in today that we have a gigantic challenge of creating jobs to recover the 1.8 million jobs we have lost.”
