Physician on pandemic mental illness: Those who die of COVID-19 had at least 10 more years to live

In these particularly difficult times, doctor Gabriel Diaconu calls for vaccination again and talks about page his socialization as he saw Romanians mentally affected by the pandemic:

“It simply came to our notice then. Take care of your mind, you might lose it and not know why.

COVID19 triggers neurological, or mental, illness in nearly one-third of those who have been infected.

Most of these cases, in at least one study published in the spring of this year in The Lancet (April, 2021), were found in people who had moderate or severe forms of infection, ie they also had symptoms of “cold”, but and systemic pneumonia and coagulation disorders.

But there were also situations where people had mild forms, with minimal damage, and at a distance began to have cognitive problems (concentration, memory, orientation in time / space), severe anxiety, insomnia, borderline psychosis with delirium ( less hallucinations).

All of this, as a practitioner, I have been able to see in practice in the office since the pandemic began. I don’t think he is a psychiatrist, in Romania, he has not seen at least one case where, in a person without a history suggestive of risk or vulnerability to mental illness, after COVID to develop problems like the ones above.

I have seen young people who have come to need medication for their condition. And, yes, I saw people who hadn’t been infected, but because of the environmental stress and the barrage of information artillery (on either side) they eventually succumbed.

Without knowing who to believe, where to take her, trapped in concepts that they cannot detach and assimilate, fear overwhelmed them, the terror of not dying on a hospital bed or being left with sequelae pushed them to an extreme state of denial. It made them refuse minimal gestures of prevention, display bravado and enter like a mental shell, from where to refuse anything to do with COVID.

Disinformation happens organized

The phenomenon is all the more oppressive as, on the dark side of the world, misinformation does not happen chaotically, but organized. There is a favorite malice that leads in battle, in chaos all those who continue to claim that it is not a virus, but a cacialma, that it is not a pill, it is poison, that it is not a vaccine, it is a means of mass control.

This is how some people end up dying in their homes for days, because they don’t call an ambulance. This is how children end up asking their parents to get vaccinated, but their parents say no.

And so people end up having strokes, heart attacks, other focal neurological manifestations (including epilepsy) when things take an ugly turn.

When the last great pandemic took place, a century ago, the neuro-psychiatric consequences could hardly be traced, and only in select monographs. Some encephalitic sequelae caused people, yesterday alive and mobile, healthy and communicative, to enter a state of “hardening” that kept them like this for several decades, until a fortuitous discovery of a substance – Levo-DOPA – he “woke up” for a short time, some of them forgotten in a care home on the American East Coast.

Many don’t even know they have a mind

Romania also has its secrets. Our “chronicle” centers contain, if you know how to search, if you know how to listen, horror stories, sequelae after viral infections of the person in question, or of his mother during pregnancy, with detrimental consequences on the quality of life of the individual.

When it comes to caring for the health of one’s own mind, I have no doubt that people ignore it. Many don’t even know they have (mind). Others do not know where to place it, in the body (but where there is no head, woe of the feet). There are others who have minimal notions about the psyche, and what its functions are, but have no intention of questioning them. Even the most washed or educated maintain myths, irrational beliefs about psychology (or “physiology of the mind”) and psychiatry (or its medical “pathology”).

Instead, it becomes a certainty that the tectonic impact of both coronavirus infections that give COVID and the group effect, psychological, given by illness and death, intimately changes the fiber of society, culture, and defines our generation.

We kill the elderly in excess. We calculated it last year, it was later confirmed by other studies, that those who die of COVID still had at least 10 years to live (on average). They died 10 years earlier.

It affects us, chronically, our health, in a proportion that is difficult to estimate now, with sequelae in the affected organs (lung, heart, liver, kidneys) but also in the nervous system, with consequences not yet systematically evaluated.

No one can faithfully illustrate the drama of a parent who sees his child become manic, psychotic, uncontrollable, from a young, beautiful student with a future that was before. And for what?

Some can affect your nerves

No one can faithfully illustrate the cataclysm of the loss of parents, or life partner, through illness, and we already have hundreds of thousands of extended families who have gone through this experience.

When some colleagues say that we are witnessing a “humanitarian disaster”, it is worth referring to the psychological hell that the pandemic has forced us, and forces us to live. One in which we have to somehow cope with the limited resources we have.

If I wrote, if I insist on writing and popularizing elementary concepts of medical science, it is because only in this way people can structure their minds a little enough to strengthen themselves, to take “food” to be able to think, feel better about what is happening. around.

But also because it is the best prophylaxis, the best form of prevention in the face of fear, terror and confusion, all risk factors for mental illness.

If I’m advocating for the vaccine, it’s not just about the number of epidemics / pandemics in terms of the number of cases / hospitalizations / deaths,

As for the preventive effect of this simple act that you can do when it comes to chronic consequences of COVID disease, some that can affect your nerves, and your mind.
