From June 1, it is possible to visit the photo book by applying individually exhibition “Self Publish Riga 2021” in the gallery “ISSP”. In one part of the exhibition, the best works submitted for the competition can also be seen, and in total about 150 photo books have been exhibited in the ISSP gallery. –

Evita Goze, the curator of the exhibition, says: “The exhibition“ Self Publish Riga ”features books submitted for the competition, as well as six different book collections from around the world. One of them is the Paris Photo – Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards, the most important photo book competition in the world.

This year there has also been an unprecedented event that this competition includes two from Latvia – one is Diana Tamane’s book “Flower Smuggler” and the other is the book “Glass Strenči” published by “Orbita”, which is dedicated to the Strenči photo archive. “

The creators of the exhibition acknowledge that for some time now in the world photo books have been perceived not only as catalogs of works, but as works of art, where not only photographs, but also complementary text, graphic design elements and printed materials are important. This can also be seen in the competition works, which are still only models, not ready-to-publish books.

Alexei Murashko, a member of the competition jury, admits that the difference between genres and themes in the works is significant, but a significant part of the books is related to the pandemic.

The winner of the competition will be announced at the beginning of next week, but the exhibition can be viewed in the “ISSP” gallery until July 1, by applying in advance.
