Agnete Krilova’s symphony “To the New World” premiered in the concert performed by the orchestra. The award-winning Uzbek-American pianist Behzod Abduraimov performed in the second part of the concert, performing Ludwig van Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto.

As previously reported, the orchestra’s season-opening concert program included works by two great figures from the Vienna School of Classicism. “Symphony’s Father” Joseph Haydn’s 28th Symphony and the legendary First Piano Concerto by the genius pianist and composer Ludwig van Beethoven. Bashzod Abduraimov, a Tashkent-born Uzbek pianist and winner of the London International Piano Competition, took part in the performance. The second symphony “To the New World” by the Latvian composer Agnete Krilova experienced its world premiere on the evening of the concert.

After the concert in the Great Hall of the Grand Guild, the closed part of the opening of the orchestra season took place, to which the orchestra’s musicians, well-known cultural workers and media representatives, Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Latvia Kadambay Sultanov, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Latvia , Ambassador of the French Republic to Latvia Mme Aurélie Royet-Gounin. The meeting was addressed by the Minister of Culture Nauris Puntulis and the artistic director of the orchestra Normunds Šnē.

As reported, the visit of brilliant foreign soloists, performance directors and guest conductors to Riga is also expected in the next concerts of the 16th season of the chamber orchestra. Already on Saturday, September 25, virtuoso Russian violinist Alina Ibragimova will play with Riga musicians in the Grand Guild (the concert has been postponed from April 24, 2020). On October 9, at the closing concert of the Autumn Chamber Music Festival “Haydn Overture and Schubert’s 4th Symphony”, you will be able to meet again with the concertmaster of the Bremen German Chamber Philharmonic and “Signum Quartet”, violinist Florian Donderer.

This season will also feature the concert program “Mendelssohn’s Symphonies and Scottish Bagpipes” compiled by Estonian maestro Olari Elts and dedicated to Scotland. The concert will take place on November 12. Impossible and unusual for the Latvian listener in this program will be Peter Maxwell Davis’ opus for bagpipes and orchestra “Weddings in the Orkney Islands, with sunrise”. Robert Jordan, one of the most visible contemporary Scottish concert baggers, will take part in the performance.

As a debt from the previous season, the program of the 16th concert season of “Sinfonietta Rīga” includes two events especially expected by the listeners. On December 3, Krista Auznieks’ concert for electric guitar and chamber orchestra “Horizon in a Ball” will finally premiere in the concert program “Beethoven, Wax and Auznieks Concert for Electric Guitar”, where, as expected, guitar solos will be performed by a filigree Korean guitarist.

In the program of the festival “European Christmas”, a particularly large group of musicians – the State Academic Choir “Latvia”, the chamber orchestra “Sinfonietta Riga” and outstanding soloists – Jena Choi (soprano) – will gather on the stage of the Grand Guild under the direction of the notable Estonian maestro Tõnu Kaljuste. Lepalan (mezzo-soprano), Lothar Odinius (tenor) and Lisandro Abadi (bass baritone). In the performance of the musicians, one of the most ambitious opuses of last year’s anniversary Ludwig van Beethoven – “Missa Solemnis” – will be presented to the Riga audience.
