The wedding took place at Laura’s and now Juris’ home in Kundziņsala. The wedding venue was carefully chosen – a beautiful and scenic place where lindens and oaks grow. “There was also an idea to get married on my side, in Līvāni, in my parents’ house, but for the convenience of everyone, we decided to meet in Kundziņsala, right in the yard. The wedding took place in a very small circle of guests. Our mothers, Laura’s brother Krišs Karnītis, my sister Maija Kulakova, marriage witnesses Kristīne Liepiņa and Jānis Ozols, as well as Laura’s dogs Spartaks and Luce were with us. It is very unfortunate that my daughter Justine and grandchildren, who could not come from France due to the pandemic, were not with us at the wedding. Laura and I have decided that we will go to France at the right time on our wedding trip, where I will also visit my daughter and grandchildren, ”says the artist.

Lived in Kundziņsala

Juris says that he has been living with his wife in Kundziņsala for a long time and has fallen in love with this place. In turn, my apartment in the center of Riga is affectionately called a nest, which is still preserved: “The nest for me in the center of Riga has been preserved. Why do I call it a nest? There are more sheet music, books and some musical instruments. The environment of such an artist… ”explains Kulakov.

Asked, who then changed while living with Laura, Juris jokes: “I have not become more tidy in my new home – it is probably a hopeless option. No one can change me. The piano is loaded with sheet music, the synthesizer also, even the printer is already loaded with them. Laura also has its weaknesses. She is a great book reader. Shelves full of books, there is nowhere to put them, ”the composer says with a smile about life in Kundziņsala.

After the first seduction received a “basket”

Kulakov says that the relationship with Laura started in a special and memorable way. The couple met just like in the movie. The relationship with the composer has developed thanks to the work of the group “Pērkons”. “We played at the airport’s New Year’s party at the Latvian Society House. But we have not yet met there. Laura then had a birthday. And colleagues, knowing that she liked Thunder, had invented my autograph and disc as a gift. I sent it electronically, but the anniversary expressed a wish to receive the original. That’s how she came after her from an event – to my home studio – in a long evening dress, high-heeled shoes and rose teeth … ”Kulakov remembered his first meeting with his recently bound wife.

“In general, on the first day of the meeting I realized that Laura is real! The first acquaintance was like a night of conversation, but on the third day of the meeting I wished him! It happened at the Chuck monument. That was when she visited me in my apartment in the center of Riga, which I call a nest. How did I seduce? I didn’t have any weaning technique, it was quite simple. I said, “Let’s get married!” But in return I got a “basket”… “

He wanted his wife to keep his last name

The legendary musician reveals the main reasons for the marriage: “In fact, neither me nor Laura care about the marriage, especially at this age. I believe that I have already had four wives so seriously. Two with whom I have been legally married and two more with whom I have lived together for more than a year – four and five years. We lived like a marriage, only we had not legally documented our relationship. I also think we have been married to Laura for a year and a half. This wedding was the legal arrangement of this status. It is necessary to get married, because there may be situations where it is not enough just to actually have spouses, but there is no documentary evidence of it. The change of surname was Laura’s choice. I thought she should stay with her last name, because everyone in her circles knows her as Karnite. So changing her last names can be confusing, and so changing her documents… But she objected, wanted to change my last name. ”

“Especially we weren’t preparing for the wedding. I did not have any piece of clothing sewn or purchased for this wedding. Laura bought her a blue linen dress from the Mayra brand especially for weddings, ”revealed Kulakovs. “The rings were ordered from Laura’s friend. They were made by jeweler Mario Drosakis. Considering that both Laura and I don’t like gold, the wedding rings are made of silver, ”says Juris.

The founder of the group “Pērkons” also reveals the reason why the wedding took place immediately after his birthday: “The time until the date of the birthday is particularly sensitive. These are the beliefs and observations that it is not recommended to perform, for example, serious surgeries or anything significant during this time, the wedding is the least of the risks… ”Weddings by nature in Kundziņsala have been cordial, but short, because the weather has not pampered. After the solemn part, where both the wedding documents and the rings were placed on the finger, there was a musical performance and, of course, good wishes for the young couple. There was also a treat for a variety of snacks, including Laura’s vegan rhubarb cake.

Opera singer Miervaldis Jenčs married Yuri Kulakovs and Laura Karnīte. According to Kulakov, the wedding was cordial, but due to bad weather, Laura had a cold. A few days after the wedding, her temperature rose, leading to a Covid-19 test. It was negative.
