As reported this Tuesday afternoon by Shams Charania of., And after confirmation by the team themselves, the Phoenix Suns have resigned Damian Jones. The center selected by the Warriors with the 30th pick in the 2016 draft, he was signed by the Arizona franchise on a two-year unsecured contract last season.
The fifth-year NBA player was recruited as an option to give depth under the rim behind DeAndre Ayton and Dario Saric. Jones impressed in the preseason with his mobility at both ends of the pitch. So with Saric injured earlier in the year, he had the opportunity to make his contribution as Ayton’s replacement.
However, over the minutes he had, he showed himself to be inconsistent and struggled to avoid foul issues. It’s something that affected him in his moves for the Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks as well.
With the arrival of Frank Kaminsky in Phoenix, he quickly edged out Jones in the rotation, and from there the former Warriors barely played the rest of the year. In 14 games played this season, Jones averaged 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds per game in just 94 minutes overall.
The move gives the Suns a free spot on the list. With a 20-10 record and a good game in the tough Western Conference, Arizona has certainly put itself in a position to win over some interesting names in the transfer or free agent market.
