Philips will produce additional medical equipment that can be used to fight the corona virus, the company reports Sunday. This includes respiratory equipment and X-ray and CT scanners. Philips wants to temporarily hire additional staff to increase production.
Philips mainly focuses on respiratory equipment. The originally Eindhoven company hopes to double its production in the next eight weeks. In the third quarter, the production of respirators must even have quadrupled.
To achieve this, Philips will reduce the production of other equipment and use its employees to produce the medical equipment. The company also wants to temporarily hire additional employees for the increased production.
“In line with our mission to improve people’s lives, we want to help so many healthcare providers cope with the growing numbers of critical COVID-19 patients,” writes Philips CEO Frans van Houten.

The coronavirus in short
