Philippine politician wants to punish ghosting. According to him, it is emotional damage

According to Teves, ghosting is a form of grudge. It can develop feelings of rejection and inferiority in the person exposed to it. The phenomenon should therefore be classified similarly to, for example, physical injury.

According to the Washington Post server, which reported on the case, the Philippine legislator did not specify in his proposal how the perpetrators would be punished, but he is clear that punishment should not be avoided.

In his proposal, Teves writes that “the ways of dating have changed a lot compared to previous years”, which he says leads to people simply cutting ties without considering the harm they can cause to the other party. “The ambiguity of ghostin is that there will be no real closure of the whole thing between the parties concerned,” opines the politician.

He adds that ghosting is mentally, physically and emotionally draining for victims, as well as humiliating. This is also agreed by psychologists, who say that people resort to ghosting for various reasons — for example, when they are unable to hold complex conversations or feel that the other party would not react rationally to their rejection, so it is easier for them to stop completely echo.

The proposal has sparked a wave of interest on social media, but has also been criticized for detracting from more pressing issues facing the Philippines at the moment. According to the Washington Post, the bill is unlikely to pass in its current form.
