Philippe Caubère will play his last show at the Avignon Festival

It was on the Place de la Mairie transformed into an open-air theater that Philippe Caubère came to present two shows from his trilogy devoted to Alphonse Daudet, author known to all for The letters of my mill. Two evenings organized by the municipality which, according to Pierre De La Rue Du Can, mayor of Ponteils, delighted the public, young and old.

“Philippe Caubère offered an opening onto a world that is different from our usual concerns, but this completes what we are doing in Ponteils to enhance the territory and the people who live there. It is also a big investment by elected officials and all volunteers.”

As usual, Philippe Caubère lives all his characters, he interprets them with this subtle art that has made his reputation. For an hour and a half, he is Monsieur Seguin’s goat, the wolf, the priest of Cucugnan, Saint-Pierre, the devil, and the man with the golden brain. Friday evening’s show ended with a vibrant tribute to Mistral, savior of the Provençal language.

“May 68 saved my life”

The second evening entitled The stars is more romantic and fantastic, it is close to the dream.

The three hundred spectators (one hundred and fifty per evening) from the village and the territory of the Hautes Cévennes particularly appreciated these performances.

Philippe Caubère is a person who “talks about others, about all the others. After leaving the Théâtre du soleil in 1980, where I learned everything, it took me a while to find my way. I wanted to write a play about myself, it didn’t didn’t work, it was Clémence, my first wife, who put me on the path by saying: do what you learned, improvise!” He started being all the characters in his stories. Supported by Jean-Pierre Taillade, he had to find his own way, “It was difficult, I almost lost my health. I talk about myself through the eyes of others or what they imagine they see of me. What I know is that I only do what I love and that I work as an author. In fact it was May 68 that saved my life”.

Philippe Caubère has several passions, including reading, swimming, mountain biking, but the man is also interested in politics, “I am for retirement at 60, and I have a real passion for love in all its forms. I was accused of rape, it’s a sad adventure. Besides, I owe Marie Dosé my lawyer for coming out unscathed, moreover I dedicate my next show Les étoiles to her, which I will be performing from July 7 to 30 at the Compagnie des Soies at the Avignon Festival”.
