No more waiting in your doctor’s waiting room for a prescription. We were talking about it a few months ago, it’s now official: as of this Wednesday 1st january 2020, your pharmacist will be able to prescribe some medication.

Be careful, however, this measure aims above all to troubleshoot and therefore only concerns some emergencies.

Cystitis, conjunctivitis, angina…

Pharmacists will be able to dispense drugs used to treat small pathologies, such as urinary tract infections, angina or conjunctivitis. This new system should allow the French to be quickly relieved, without having to go through the emergency room.

The LREM deputy of Charente Thomas Mesnier, general rapporteur of the Health bill, pointed out toActu.fr in March :

As an emergency physician, I know the situation well. These mild ailments do not require emergencies, often not even medical consultation. (…) It is not a question of the pharmacist replacing the doctor or doing medicine at a discount. It will be the same quality of care, but delivered differently. “

Depending on the patient’s pain, the pharmacist will be able to adapt the dosage of certain treatments, including anti-inflammatory drugs.

This procedure should, moreover, require specific training for pharmacists. “Everything will be strictly supervised by the High Health Authority. For any medication dispensed, the pharmacist will have the obligation to inform the attending physician, “added Thomas Mesnier.
